State Rep. Figueroa鈥檚 remarks, made during a Spanish-language video interview posted online, have been widely condemned by many in Stamford, including elected officials and members of the local Jewish and Latino communities. Figueroa said her intention was to emphasize the need for having someone in elected office who understands the needs of the large Latino community in Stamford.

Delegates from Puerto Rico referred to the island territory as "the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the next state of the United States" before casting their votes for Kamala Harris during Tuesday night's roll call.

Social clubs used to help newcomers adapt to life in America. Many have disappeared over the years. But in New York City, Latinos are keeping that tradition going.

A post on Figueroa鈥檚 political Facebook page Tuesday evening called for 鈥渦nity and respect in our community," after the Stamford Democratic City Committee (DCC) Executive Board issued a public call for her immediate resignation.

A cell phone video recording of the incident drew attention on social media, and prompted discussions within Stamford鈥檚 Latino community about incidents of harassment that often go unreported.

There are around 35,000 Peruvians in 海角换妻 鈥� and the community continues to grow.

Officials acknowledge there are challenges with bullying in Stamford schools and say they take it seriously. Surveys nationwide show that bullying has been increasing in recent years in schools across the U.S.

The superintendent said she remains dedicated to providing fair education and sufficient resources for all students, especially the increasing number of multilingual learners.

The previous age cutoff was 12 years old. Health and immigrant rights advocates said the next goal is to extend state insurance coverage up to age 18, for families that meet income requirements.
