Hartford police have arrested a teenager in the recent shooting death of a 3-year-old boy in the city鈥檚 North End. Jaziah Smith, 19, was charged in the killing of Randell Jones. The toddler was killed in a drive-by shooting April 10. He was a passenger in a car with his mother, two older siblings and a man who hasn鈥檛 been publicly identified by police.
Hartford police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said Monday that after a weeklong investigation, the Major Crimes Division identified the shooting suspect and was granted a warrant for Smith鈥檚 arrest.
鈥淪mith is located in Hartford and was taken into custody without incident,鈥� Boisvert said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 charged with murder [and] is currently being held on a $1.75 million judgment bond.鈥�
At Smith鈥檚 arraignment Monday, the bond was increased to $2.5 million.
The investigation remains open. Smith is expected back in court in early May.
