For any New Hampshire hiker, scaling all of the state鈥檚 鈥鈥 is a huge accomplishment. But one pair of local hikers has gone viral on while documenting their time on these trails 鈥 in part because one of them is a rabbit, named Moose.
鈥淪he鈥檚 like way more badass than me,鈥 Chelsea Eason said of her pet rabbit and hiking companion. 鈥淎nd I thought I was a badass.鈥
Eason, who lives in the Sunapee region, got into hiking when she moved to New Hampshire in 2014 and completed about 32 of New Hampshire鈥檚 on her own. While she grew up with pet rabbits, she said she never took any of them on hikes. But when she got Moose, she decided to see how the rabbit might acclimate to the trails.
鈥淏ecause if she hated it, I wasn鈥檛 going to do it,鈥 Eason said.
It soon became clear: Moose loves to hike. But unlike a dog, , the rabbit tends to move at a more relaxed pace.
鈥淪he鈥檒l hop around, and sit and eat, and take care of herself,鈥 Eason said. 鈥淏ut those are the moments when I get to sit, take a breath, and figure out what she鈥檚 looking at and what she鈥檚 enjoying.鈥
Still, Eason said Moose does manage to keep up with trickier parts of New Hampshire hikes 鈥 climbing over rock slides and scrambles all on her own. Eason said Moose鈥檚 feisty, 鈥渃an-do鈥 attitude has helped her through many difficult trails.
鈥淪he鈥檚 kind of been my ride or die, my adventure partner,鈥 said Eason. 鈥淪he鈥檚 really kind of been the inspiration for me to keep going.鈥
It鈥檚 also been nice to cross paths with other hikers who are eager to meet (or pet) Moose, Eason said. And Moose is happy to receive attention. So it鈥檚 fitting that she鈥檚 also been popular on social media.
鈥淭ikTok was an accident,鈥 Eason said. 鈥淚 just made one or two videos and people started really gravitating towards that.鈥
